A murder mystery party needs only willing participants and a keen mind. You can easily create a murder mystery party by inviting over some friends and breaking out a game of Clue. There is also a very popular motion picture that came out in the 80s based on the Clue game that you can also watch while playing.
However if you want you can create your own murder mystery for the guests to solve. A real fun noodle scratcher. Now this mystery can be fully scripted and acted out or you can create a written story and series of clues for the guests. It might be fun for you to create an involved story sort of like a summary of what happened, leaving out important details such as who committed the crime, and read it aloud to the guests before they begin working on the mystery. There should be several clues for the guests to connect together like a puzzle. They can be something like, ‘the clown is five feet tall and he likes to play basketball’, but should contain tidbits that are important to solving the puzzle.
To make it more fun for your guests you can offer a prize to the person who solves the mystery. The whole party should contain elements of a murder mystery. You can have the guests come to the party dressed up as their favorite murder mystery detectives, like Sherlock Holmes, and Colombo.
Party favors can be a toy handcuff and badge set that are easy to pick up in bulk. The color scheme can be browns and plaids with magnifying glasses and police tape scattered around the party area. Banners are a great way to display the party theme and what the event is for, and proclaim your event to be the scene of the crime.
