You have a great chance to celebrate the happy news before the wedding planning gets to intense at an engagement party. This may be the last chance before the pre-wedding craziness begins, to have a fun, relaxing time to celebrate this important milestone in a happy couple's life, most importantly, have fun!
Be sure to send invitations with all the pertinent information such as date, time, and location, as well as the type of party and who the happy celebrants are. Include any additional information such as special instructions, gift ideas, or maps to the party location, that might be needed.
Always a great conversation starter, ask other guests to bring photos or snapshots of the guests of honor. They might be childhood photos or just candid photos of the couple together or photos of you and one of them together. This is a great way to reminisce and is a built in activity.
If the party is very large, consider having a microphone set up where impromptu toasts can be made throughout the evening, and remember…cheesy can be acceptable at informal engagement parties. Heart balloons, plastic champagne flutes with the couples names on them…these are all acceptable. Another good suggestion for a take home party favor for the guests of honor is a trifold super card made from posterboard. Have a photo of the couple blown up at a copy store, mount it on posterboard, and attach two poster boards, one to each side. Attach a felt marking pen to each with yarn, ribbon, or string. Label one "Women's Advice" the other "Men's Advice" and hang up, so each guest can write tips throughout the party.
Look for funny comments, sage wisdom, and allow the guests of honor to take the "card" home at the end of the engagement party.
